Following undergraduate studies focused on literature (American and British) as well as geology, I earned master's and doctoral degrees in the field of geochemistry.

While I enjoy the humanities, I appreciate the mystery and rigor of science. And I like being both geologist and chemist. Geology allows me to understand how the earth works, to visit stunning locales with interesting people, to tramp through silent landscapes all alone. Chemistry lets me apply the powerful logic of atoms and molecules to solving fascinating puzzles.

But most of all I like learning and teaching, and I have chosen to do so for many years in classrooms and as a private tutor.

Over those years, I have tutored countless high school students in chemistry and physics, from basic to honors and AP.

I have also helped numerous college students who have now achieved their goals of becoming physicians, dentists, nurses, engineers, and scientists.
Success!

"Six weeks before school ended, I received a notice from school that my daughter was failing AP Chemistry. Her only hope was to pass the AP exam, which would give her an automatic A in the class.

We contacted Janet, who immediately responded to the challenge, and who arranged her schedule to be as available as possible. In the little time she had, Janet managed to explain a year’s worth of chemistry to my daughter, who then scored a 4 on the AP exam, and saved her GPA!

We are indebted to Janet: it was one of the best investments I’ve ever made. Needless to say, she is highly recommended."
